Flights into Rome are plentiful (& nonstop from EWR) but Florence is also a great hub between Venice, Rome, Milan.
It is also the closest airport to the wedding venue.
After landing, rent a car/van! This is a must when exploring the Tuscan countryside. Pick up & drop off is easiest here at the airport.
Outside of Tuscany, a car is not as necessary as the trains allow for reliable & convenient access between cities…

The train is the most efficient way to travel in Italy (or even to other EU countries).
Train tickets can be purchased at the train station. When you arrive at the station, you can purchase your tickets at the kiosk or at the counter. On your ticket, you will find the date (data) and time (ora) of your departure as well as your train number and your train car number (carrozza). You will refer to the train number and the departure time/destination to find your train’s platform. This will be displayed at the large monitors.
Be sure to check the monitors 10-15 minutes before your departure time. Don’t panic if you don’t see your train details as this gets updated periodically.
Beware of pick pocketers. Keep an eye on your luggage and stay aware of your surroundings.
